Genius Hour Reflection

For my second Genius Hour, I decided to make research about talents and what many people take them to be. I chose this topic because it is something part of everyone’s life and I also wanted to change and do something totally different from my first genius hour which was about Mars. Unlike my first genius hour, the second was more like everyday life and included everyone which is mainly why I chose it. I took time making researches but mostly by asking my schoolmates and some people on twitter who have different talents like writers and painters. I mostly asked them how they were able to discover their talents and what they take talents to be or what most people around them take them to be. Most of them said that they discovered their talents when they were little and were able to keep it going because of the inspiration from their parents, siblings or even teachers.

The answers I got were almost the same except those from Alice Luetchford who said that most people take talents to be things that make you famous and bring you income and she also gave me an example that kindness is also a talent but many people don’t think of it that way because it neither makes you famous nor gives you money. Her ideas were new to me and though I had never thought of it, when I did, I discovered that it was so true. Making different researches helped me to get ideas from different people and got a feeling of success when I got an idea I had never thought of. Personally, I learnt a lot from this project and the most important thing I learnt was that a talent is not all about how people appreciate what you do, but how you do it willingly and how you use it to help others. I also read some articles which made me know that there are some talents, though undermined by most people are more important than what can make you famous like the talent of kindness or happiness.

Comparing the second genius hour to the first one, the second was a lot better because I took my time to ask my friends since they all had different talents and others did not even know their talents but the first Genius Hour, all I did was internet research because there was no way to ask my friends about their perspectives since it is not something part of their life and most of them did not know much about the Mars.

Connecting with people on twitter from my project is also another knew thing I did for my second Genius Hour and I think my second topic was more interesting and even before the presentation, I had more confidence than the first one because it was something I already knew about and all I had to do was to add some few new learnt details. What I learnt from my genius hour helped me as well as my classmates especially those who did not know yet what their talents were that no talent should be undermined and that whatever you are good at, whether other people like it or not, you should keep working on it and look forward to make it the best.

The second thing I learnt is that a talent is not what people think you can do, but what you feel you can do and feel you want to put all your effort in doing it. For my next Genius Hour, I want to make research about social media.I want to include how social media has changed from time to time, both positively and negatively and also get to show people whether social media was better the time it was introduced or not.

Media And Its Impact On Society

Media is important part of many people’s lives especially in education and work. In schools, students are able to learn more than what they get from class through media and it makes work easier for teachers or other people who do certain jobs like selling different items abroad without having to go and deliver the goods themselves. An example is like selling a certain good from a country faraway in maybe Europe to Africa or any other part of the world.

Social media has also become very common and it gives us a chance to talk to people overseas and a good example is when I found my friend on Facebook who was in my class in 4th grade.It was about five years since I last saw her and I was so happy to finally get to hear from her all thanks to social media. The other good part of media is that people get to be aware of insecurity around them in order to keep their eyes open, videos are all over the world encouraging human rights and gender balance and most importantly people get a chance to see ideas from others and get to learn from them.

Though media improves economy, it has also caused some negative consequences, an example of where some companies get a chance to advertise lies about their work and products to get customers. The closest example I can give is a company that manufactures alcohol and when advertising, they include some men or women looking really cool or some famous celebrities taking it so that other people and especially their fans can take their example. Such companies also never say anything about the negative consequences about that product since all they care about mostly is the income they will get and less or not at all about the people.

However, media has had a negative effect on culture in most parts where many people forget their culture and choose to live and dress like some famous celebrities because they think that other people will look at them and think that they are cool or because they just think that it is better to live that way. In the way of dressing. media has changed culture.My personal experience is my country where usually girls or women don’t wear hot pans or very short dresses, when they see someone dressing like that on TVs or any other media, some think that those people are evil while others think that they are really cool and try to imitate them.

In spite of all the negative things we can obtain from media, I think that media is harmless as long as you use the correct way and use your brain to avoid being tricked by some people.

My Best Birthday Ever!!!!

Since when I was like six years, I always celebrated my birthday. I was excited waiting for my parents to return to see what present they had brought for me. When they arrived, we went to a restaurant of my choice, go to play with my siblings and three of my friends who had come for my birthday. Before, I was so excited about the it but then everything started getting so boring because we kept on doing the same things, inviting the same friends until I was ten. On my eleventh birthday, I wanted to change something about my birthday so I asked my dad if I would invite more friends and he accepted. I was happy that I had more people at my party but we still did the same things!! Now I knew that my birthdays were probably going to be the most boring days of my life. Before my 12th birthday, I decided to talk to my dad about how I felt but I was a little afraid because I did not want him to think that I did not appreciate what they were doing for me. I appreciated indeed, but doing the same things every birthday had become so bad that my birthday was almost same as other days. I was surprised that when I talked to my him, he understood me immediately and promised to make my coming birthday different from all the birthdays I have had. When the day finally came,

  • so many people were invited,
  • we ate lots of candy,
  • danced,
  • went swimming

and I got so many presents.As dad had promised, this was the best birthday party I ever had.

TWITTER EXPERT CONNECT

For my second Genius Hour Project, I decided to work on how to discover your hidden talents and I was asked to find and follow ten people whom I thought would be helpful for my research as far as my project was concerned. After following ten differently talented people, three of them followed me back, I had to @mention them in a tweet asking them for some information for my research or their advice.I mostly asked what they thought about how they discovered their talents and most of them told me that their talents were not specific because they did not do just one or two things and that talents were often unhelpful ideas because they give some people limits. I will use the information I got in my presentation to show how talents can be discovered, how they can be improved and most importantly something I had not thought about before that they can cause limits in one’ s mind or activities.

My list included the following:

@JamesFrancoTV- actor, writer and director

@prattprattpratt-comedian

@SkinnyArtist- artist and writer

@timmytedwards- talent manager

@tim_j_edwards- writer

@jimjefferies- comedian

@collier1960- architect and author

@tracyamino- novelist

@AliceLuetchford- artist and photographer

@richardbranson- soccer player

I chose to follow them because they mentioned their specific talents and show them through their tweets especially artists who show what they made or painted.All the people I followed are related to my project because their tweets are basically showing their talents to the world and some of the writers are looking forward to selling their stories and books. I have learnt a lot from this and I am looking forward to using the process in future for my academics because you get a chance to learn from people who are more experienced than you.

Genius Hour Project

In the genius hour, I researched about planet Mars and I was very interested in it because it took me a lot of time thinking about it and got many ideas before starting to make researches.

I learnt that Mars is very small, and has a very low gravity.Apart from that, the most important thing I learnt is that there are some animals living on mars.Based on my effort on learning, I would give myself 80% because though I did not learn everything about mars, I had put a lot of effort in it.What I shared helped the community a lot because when I asked the class how long it would take to reach Mars from the earth and many thought it would take only 2 months, so I could tell that they knew very little about my topic and were learning from it.

On my next genius hour project, I want to change the topic and find something done by all people, not a topic like mars where some people think is not important or have no idea about and I am mostly thinking about things people usually meet in their daily lives.For that reason I am thinking about exploring topics like how to discover your talents,how to stop boredom in school and how to increase your skills in tennis.

SUBSCRIBE BY EMAIL

I added this widget to my sidebar because it allows people to subscribe to my blog using their email address so that the latest updates about the blog can be delivered straightaway to their inbox.The main reason for email subscription is to keep the reader aware of any new information posted about their area of interest.

The email subscription also allows the readers to get information about the blog easily because they do not have to enter my blog to find what I posted since that would take more time but the email subscription makes it easier and quicker for the readers and also helps them to solve the problem of forgetting to check for the new posts since they will always have the them in their inbox and all they need to do is read it.

How To Be Successful In School

There are very many ways a student can use to become successful in school.Some ways may seem really difficult and boring, but it becomes the opposite when you try them as long as you know what you want.

  • Hang Out With Smart Friends

Students-laughing-kristian-sekulic-E-Plus-Getty-Images-175405286.jpg - kristian sekulic - E Plus - Getty Images 175405286  Peer pressure is incredibly powerful.A person who always hangs out with careless people is 90% going to be as careless as them,so always hang out with people that have the same goals as you and you will not only help you to improve your grades but together you can use your different skills to develop yourselves as you all know what you want.

Ask When You Don’t Understand

Question-Juanmonino-E-Plus-Getty-Images-114248780.jpg - Juanmonino - E Plus - Getty Images 114248780Some students fail to succeed in school because they fear to look stupid in front of their fellows when they ask a question which the others know.If you don’t ask,you are wasting that chance to ask and you may never be able to know what you have refused to ask just because you don’t want to look bad in front of other students.So,just follow your goal,don’t be shy and mostly care less about what other people will think of you because anyways the goal is yours and has nothing to do with them and neither do they have anything to with it.Even if they laugh at you and make you look ridiculous when you ask, don’t regret why you have asked but just ignore them and pretend you are not in the same class.

Try it and you will find yourself performing miracles which you had never expected.

Party,Ease Life

It was  a Sunday morning morning when I had my mother shouting ‘Daniella are you still in bed???’ I wondered why she was so angry when it was only 8:00 ,then got out of my bed and met her at my door. ‘Look at your grades!’ was her good morning.I knew i had done so badly in my tests and the punishment was ‘you are grounded!!!’ I felt really bad for making my mum so angry,after a while,a friend of mine came to visit me. Of course I was not allowed to be visited,so she had to pass through the window and convinced me to go partying with her.I thought that she was really mad to tell me that in spite of knowing how guilty I felt for disappointing my parents. She convinced me for about an hour and I finally accepted.We went to the party but no one was aware most especially because I could not face my parents.We left at about 7:00 pm .The party was really cool and chatted,laughed and were really happy.Of course I did not take any alcohol.After the party,the feeling of guilt was no longer in me and i was really confident.I then said bye to my friends and went home.When I reached there i went directly to my parents’ room who were surprised to see me in my dress,and my dad was like ‘don’t tell me you are asking for permission to go out coz  you know you are grounded. I told them that I was from there.They were mad at me at first but then I was determined to talk to them no matter what.Talking to them was quite difficult but I succeeded then I was given another chance to work hard.Since then I believed in’Party,Ease Life.
